When Market Basket hired TCD Construction, Inc. to renovate and expand a former
Kmart store into the largest supermarket in New England, it was
a sweet return for Bill Torphy, a principal of TCD.
One of Mr. Torphy’s first construction projects (working for a
former real estate developer), he was involved in the project
management of the original Chelsea Mystic Mall, constructed in
the late 70’s. Converting the old building into a new Market
Basket prototype was both rewarding and a challenge. TCD has
gone on to remodel the old supermarket store into retails space
for TJX tenants HomeGoods and TJ Maxx, as well as a dozen other
retail and restaurant tenants.
